Will you buy a tiny crepe for $6.50?
I bet you would, here's why.
Yesterday I went to pick my sister from school and the moment I reached...
I clutched my purse with fear and gulped down a sour taste.
They were having a "book fair".
Or as I like to call it, I reaper’s fair where they rip off your soul using puppy eyed demons.
Yes, I was not spared which was completely expected. My sis can melt rock with her shimmering eyes.
But, what I didn't expect was to come out "educated".
Let's not even talk about the $57 worth of books which a normal bookstore would sell for $20 and get straight to the meat of the show.
The crepes.
Now, don't be mistaken for even a second thinking they were "good".
Unless your version of good is hard, doughy, overly sweet piece of I don't know what.
(The Nutella cream was good though because no one on earth can mess that up)
But people still paid for them, just like me.
Why?
1) They did their market research.
There were 2 kinds of customers: kids and the adults tagging along.
What would the kids like?
Sweet, sugary goodness. And they had a whole array of toppings, enough to put the little minds in high grade steroids.
Double dopamine rush.
As for the adults…
Did I mention overly-sweet? Yeah, so I bought their freshly brewed vanilla iced coffee to counteract that. Perfect amount of bitterness and a great flavor (This was worth the money)
They understood the demands of different types of audience and acted accordingly.
2) Attracting the audience
Sales literally walked up to their doorsteps with the smell alone.
Whatever the taste was like, they smelled "heavenly".
I swear they must have been spraying vanilla, chocolate and coffee flavored perfumes around because whichever corner you were, the smell would find you.
And drag you.
3) Entertainment
They made the crepes right in front of you with little faces staring unblinkingly as if they were at a magic show.
Hell, even I was entertained.
We were part of the entire cooking process and got to choose your own toppings and fillings.
At that point, you honestly feel obligated to buy.
4) FOMO
Wherever you walked, someone was nibbling from a triangular wrapper, wiping whipped cream mustaches and talking crepe tongue.
Ignored it once, twice, a bit more…until it was impossible to ignore.
Went to have a peek, got entranced by the smell and the cooking show and our fate was sealed.
All because of the “fear of missing out on something amazing”…which of course it wasn’t but you only realize it when its too late.
So the point is, they managed to spread the word to such an extent that it kept attracting more, and more, and more people.
Sort of like a compounding effect.
Trust me, seeing these marketing theories from books put to action was, to say the least, eye-opening.
Which is why I don’t regret the price one bit (plus I had a smiling kid as a bonus)
So I shall take your thank you’s and you take these lessons and apply them directly to your next giveaway/launch/sales page to make your sales break through the roof.
What were they again?
Conduct market research on WHO needs your offer
Attract those people with the right BAITS
Make them a part of the PROCESS (surveys are a great way to do that)
Spread the word and build the HYPE (pre-orders, testimonials and affiliates)
Oh and speaking of giveaways, I am planning on launching a course on walking you through the very basics of personal branding and solving the problems no one talks about.
Because, I know, building a brand from scratch is harder than standing on your hands balancing only one the pinkies.
Its confusing, overwhelming and there are times when you feel like everyone has it figured out… other than you.
But hey, its not because you’re not working hard enough. Its because you are not working in the “right“ direction.
Which is exactly what I’ll be covering in the course.
“Go from feeling hopeless to gaining clarity on monetizing your passion”
Coming soon…
(Oh and as I am still building it, if you have any specific problems, reply to this email and I'll be sure to address it)
Until then,
Take care, stay safe and drink lots of water.
Love,
Khadija
