Let us discuss New Year Resolutions!
No, not the ordinary kind...
2024 is literally knocking your door with its eye pasted on your eye hole.
My 2023 was anything but eventful.
Lost my grandma and understood what a glue she was to the family, just by sitting on her bed
Got an award for A' level results
Started uni
Felt lost
Found my way through writing online
Opened a twitter account which turned into X
Met some AMAZING people
Made tons of friends in X
Got a marriage proposal there (refused and blocked after a good laugh)
Found out I have a LOT more than I realized
2023 was about finding myself. 2024 would be about sustaining that “self“.
These are my new year’s resolutions, and I want these to be your goals as well.
I promise, you will be changed person.
1) Be stubbornly YOU
This year, without realizing, I tried morphing myself into someone I am not. Next year, this is not happening.
Don’t follow trends, creators, influencers and idols so blindly you forget to be yourself.
Harsh truth, you can never be as successful as they are, no matter how hard you try.
No, not because they are better than you. But because they are THE BEST at being themselves.
Just like you are the BEST at being yourself.
Find your strengths and utilize them.
Accept your weaknesses, they are part of your charm.
Be unapologetically YOU-nique.
2) Ditch the people-pleaser act
Major league mistake I made when I joined X 3 months ago.
I tried to get close with some bigger creators who made my gut retch. Eventually gave up the act and guess what?
I met the people who make me excited to check my DMs every morning, who support me through the highs and lows.
Don’t force yourself to be in a group that makes you feel uncomfortable.
“But then I won’t have any friends!”
Then be friendless. Better to be alone than feeling like an outcast.
And trust me, given enough time, the right people would come and find you.
If a religious introvert like me could find her community, they so can you.
3) Be 0.1% better everyday
That’s 36.5% better than the year before. If you can keep it up.
With just a tiny meeny miniscule effort to be better than yesterday, you can end up so much closer to level of the people you admire.
Let’s just take posts for example. If you strive to be better every time you write a post, what power on earth can stop you from achieving all of your dreams?
Exactly, NONE.
This is the one goal I will try my hardest to achieve. You do too.
Tiny droplets of hard work eventually pools to become an ocean after all.
These are it. No fancy “I will earn 10K/month” or “Quit sugar” or “10M followers“ or all that stuff.
No point in putting goals I might not achieve and end up sulking. If they happen, great. If they don’t, oh well.
So, start your year strong. Set your priorities straight. And know that success comes in all different shapes and sizes, you just need to find the one that fits you.
Oh wait, I just realized… Next email would be next year!
An entire year passed huh. Anyways see ya in 2024.
Until then,
Take care, stay safe and drink lots of water.
Love,
Khadija
